Pros and Cons of Moving Your Own Stuff: Should You Hire Help or Not?

Moving day is a day that not many people look forward to. It is a day where you try to move as many things from one place to another as fast as you can without breaking or damaging anything. That is one of the reasons why UtahDave.com offers a Free Moving Truck to clients after they buys or sell a home through a Neighborhood Expert.

Should you hire professional movers to help you with your move?

When Should You Hire Movers?

There are times when hiring a mover makes more sense than trying to move on your own. Consider hiring a mover if:

  • You Have a Long Way to Go

If you have a long move ahead of you, you may not want to drive a car that is full of your belongings or drive a truck for several hours on end. This is especially true if you anticipate having to drive in bad weather.

  • You Can't Fit Everything Into One Truck and One Car

When you have a need for more than one moving truck and one car at the same time, you should hire movers who are good at coordinating a complicated move. They will be able to get as many trucks as you need to your new place without a lot of hassle.

  • You Can't Lift Your Furniture Without Hurting Yourself

Those who have a physical ailment or simply cannot lift a very heavy item without help, hiring a mover would be your best bet. Movers have many years of experience with proper lifting technique that they can use to their advantage.

When Not to Hire a Mover

On the other hand, there are times when doing it yourself is a good idea as well. You should consider doing it yourself if:

  • The Move Is a Short One

If you are moving across the street or some other very short distance from where you currently live, you can afford to take multiple trips with your car (or wheel barrow?). Additionally, your friends won't mind helping on a shorter move.

  • You Don't Have Much Money

Many movers aren't the most affordable option. Sometimes a move is happening because you are totally strapped for cash, and at that point, hundreds of dollars for professional movers can be quite the difficulty. If you don't have any money you should stick to doing it yourself and offer to buy friends some pizza or offer to return the favor if they agree to help. The decision to hire help with your next move depends on several factors. For longer moves or moves when you don't have as much help available to you, it is very likely best to hire a mover. However, if you don't have a lot of money or the move is a very short one, going it alone may be smarter if you don't have difficult items or much stuff. Whatever you may decide, you should thoroughly research the options available to you. You can find local moving companies here
