Dealing with High Winds in Daybreak

Posted by Help Now on Tuesday, March 18th, 2014 at 2:01pm.

We had quite the storm blow through Daybreak this week. In fact some areas had wind gusts over 60 MPH! This could pose a problem for some Daybreak residents with loose items on their porch. Everybody loves their Daybreak porch, but when the wind comes what can you do to keep your couch pillows from blowing away? A friend of mine showed my a neat little trick that they use to keep their pillow on their porch where they belong.

One of the first things people mention to me about Daybreak is the beautiful porches. The porch is an extension of the home out into the beautiful community of Daybreak. It is a place to customize your living space. It is also a place to relax and enjoy the beauty of Daybreak’s views and landscape. But for that you need a place to relax. Whether you have a porch swing, hammock, or couch, it just wouldn’t be home without a pillow.

A single strip of material or ribbon can become an anchor, securing your pillow. There are multiple ways to accomplish this same thing, but here are the instructions for this method.

  1. Pick your anchor material (string, ribbon, or fabric). Select a color or pattern that matches the pillow or whatever your attaching it to.
  2. Place your pillow where you would like it secured.
  3. Make a mark with chalk or masking tape where the pillow is closest the frame (or other loop-able part) of the couch.
  4. Attach the anchor to the spot indicated on the pillow, leaving approximately 3 inches on the short side.
  5. Loop the longer end around the frame and tie it to the short end attached to the pillow.
  6. Your pillows are now secure!

You could also use Velcro, or sew a strip of material to the pillow forming a loop for the anchor to go through. Whatever your strategy, this incredibly simple trick will put your mind at ease when it comes to where you rest your head.
